Finding a date night idea under $100 in Auckland can be a challenge. But Cupla’s Co-Founders Erika and Will Palmer have done the hard work for you! As the Founders of a date night app, and a couple themselves, they can attest to the fact that the best date nights have nothing to do with the money spent on a fancy dinner, and everything to do with the quality of the time spent together, investing in your romance and keeping the spark alive.
Check out their top 10 date night ideas in Auckland that are under $100, and let it spark an idea for your next date with your partner on Cupla. These date night ideas are available in-app on Cupla under a new Hints list.
Sentinel Road Beach + FishSmith
What is better than fish and chips on the beach?! FishSmith in Herne Bay is a winner for a casual date night. More than just fish and chips they also have amazing burgers and fish tacos (our go-to). We will often get a beer next door at the Elbow Room while we wait for our order and then head down to Sentinel Road Beach which is just a 5 minute stroll.
Devonport North Head + Art Galleries
We love being outdoors and exploring North Head not only is a great walk but also provides a bit of history. The view back to the city is also amazing. We love checking out the different art galleries – one of our favourites is Flagstaff which specialises in contemporary art. There are lots of great places to get coffee or brunch and Devon on the Wharf has a great view.
TenPin Bowling & Elliott Stables
TenPin Bowling at Metrolanes is super fun for us because it’s the only sporting activity where I might actually beat Will. We love to get dinner at Elliot Stables nearby which is an amazing food court with a mixture of cheap eats and gourmet ethnic food.
Electric Bikes and The Conservatory
We live in Grey Lynn so biking down to the viaduct is an easy option for us – there are always Uber bikes around our neighbourhood! We started going to The Conservatory during lockdown and love their pizzas and the outlook. We always add on a stroll around The Viaduct before heading home.
Making sushi at home
We are massive foodies and love cooking, so trying new recipes is always fun for us. We got into making sushi recently and are still perfecting it, there’s a lot to learn! Paired with a beautiful sake and this is an awesome at-home date option.
New Flavour Dominion Road
Don’t let the shabby exterior fool you – New Flavour is amazing. We are massive fans of dumplings (me probably more so than Will) and this Chinese eatery delivers the goods. Make sure you try the vege dishes as well – our favourite is the #220 fried beans with chilli. BYO.
Pici + Wandering along K’road
Pici – a new Italian eatery – has easily become one of our favs, and even better it’s super affordable with dishes from $16. We like going for a weekend lunch and checking out the thrift stores in St Kevins Arcade while we are there.
Bridgeway Cinema + Stafford Road Wine Bar
We love indie films and this family-owned boutique cinema always has a great selection. Walking distance is Stafford Road Wine Bar which has a great atmosphere. We will go there for a drink beforehand. If you’re hungry try brisket flat bread it’s perfection!
Mt Eden and RAD Cafe
Any date we can take our dogs on is a massive plus. We love walking up Mt Eden and following it with brunch at RAD Cafe, which is Will’s favourite. He always orders the same thing – pulled pork eggs benedict, Tang Tang Juice and a piccolo. All their food is classic brunch with Asian flair, so great!

Cheese & Wine
Cheese is my kryptonite and in my view it doesn’t get much better than an amazing cheese platter and a great bottle of wine. This is our go-to Sunday arvo date if we don’t want to go out but still want to do something a bit special. We have a covered outdoor seating area where we can relax with music on and unwind after a busy week. Farro is a great place if you’re looking to pick up a great bottle of wine and delicious cheese.
